The 2010 edition of the Ontario PGA Professional Development & Networking Conference once again brings teaching and coaching to the forefront. Teaching and Coaching has long been a staple in the Golf Professionals’ repertoire and the 2010 conference will add to the tool box of the Canadian PGA Golf Professional. The 2010 conference will provide participants with the spectrum of theory and practical techniques including; fitness, nutrition, sport psychology, technical elements, parental education principles, Long-Term Athlete Development, NCCP and golf coach development model.
For the first time in Canada or abroad, Canada’s own
Sean Foley will be conducting a one day seminar with renowned sports therapist, trainer and chiropractor
Dr. Craig Davies. Foley and Davies’ one day interactive seminar will touch on a number of poignant topics and will give Golf Professionals an insight to working with some of the games top athletes. Foley will touch on his success and the foundation for that success based on his own 5 P’s principals. Those include in no sequence of importance; Perspective, Perception, Priority, Perseverance and Patience. Craig Davies will touch on the importance of nutrition for competitive and golfers alike in addition to fitness programs that will help golfers of all skill levels improve.
In addition, the conference will offer a wide array of guest speakers on the second day that will touch on a number of themes surrounding coaching and coaching elite level athletes. Speakers include
Henry Brunton, Pierre Lafontaine, Paul Dewland, Gary Bernard, Jeff Thompson, Anna Mees. For a full list of bios on all speakers please see page 2.
The 2009 Conference will take place at The University of Toronto at the new athletic centre. Participants of the conference will have access to the state of the art amenities both at the Athletic Centre and the Faculty of Physical Education & Health. For the first time in a number of years an

Key Note Speakers and Presenters
Sean Foley, Director of Instruction, Core Golf Academy

One of Canada’s best-known golf instructor and widely regarded as a rising star among coaches on the professional tours.
Sean’s students include PGA Tour players Stephen Ames, Hunter Mahan, Parker McLachlin, Sean O’Hair, Greg Owen, LPGA Tour
players Jessica Shepley and Lisa Strom, as well as other touring pros and top-ranked amateurs and juniors. Sean was named 2008
Ontario PGA Teacher of the Year.
Sean is the National Coach of the Canadian Junior Golf Association, and the teaching professional at the Piper’s Heath Golf Academy in
Milton, Ontario, during the summer.
Dr. Craig Davies, Director of Fitness and Nutrition, Core Golf Academy

Craig’s forte is to ensure every student understands proper biomechanics, fitness training, and conditioning in order to maximize their
potential. His personalized golf-specific body mechanics evaluations form the basis for individualized golf fitness programs for each
student. Craig has taught golf performance courses to fitness coaches, healthcare providers, and teaching professionals, and is the
performance therapist and strength and conditioning coach for the Core Golf Junior Academy. His clients include PGA Tour players
Stephen Ames, Hunter Mahan, Jon Mills, John Rollins, George McNeill, and Y.E. Yang, winner of the 2009 PGA Championship.
Craig is the founder of ChiroTraining (www.chirotraining.org) and the developer of the Golf Exercise Specialist and Golf Performance
Therapist certifications. He is the Director of Golf for the Tour Golf Program and Junior Golf Conditioning Programs at TotumLifeScience
in Toronto and works as Golf Performance Therapist at the Granite Golf Club in Stouffville, Ontario.
Henry Brunton, Henry Brunton Golf, Canadian PGA Master Professional

Henry is one of the world’s leading golf coaches and educators. He is the Royal Canadian Golf Association's National Golf Coach, the
creator of the Canadian PGA's Teaching and Coaching Certification program, a CPGA Master Professional and the only Canadian listed
among GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Teachers in America.
Brunton has also been Canada’s National Coach since the Royal Canadian Golf Association established its Player Development Program in
1999. Teams led by Brunton won the 2001 Four Nations Cup Championship and the 2003 Americas Cup and have competed for Canada
around the globe. Brunton coached the Canadian National Men’s Team to a Silver Medal finish at the 2006 World Amateur Championship in
South Africa.
Stan Butler, Brampton Battalion, Director of Hockey Operations, OHL

Stan Butler entered the 2009-10 season, his 12th with the Battalion, as the longest serving coach in the Ontario Hockey League with one
team, and his 880 OHL games were tops among active coaches. Butler started his major junior coaching career in 1994-95 with the Oshawa
Generals and had two successful seasons before he moved to the Prince George Cougars of the Western Hockey League in 1996-97. He
enlisted with the Battalion in advance of its inaugural 1998-99 season in the OHL.
Butler began his coaching career in 1985 with the Wexford Raiders and led his peewee, bantam and midget teams to four city and three
provincial championships. In 1989, after being named the Canadian Amateur Hockey Association's coach of the year, he graduated to the
Wexford Raiders of the Metro Junior Hockey League. During the next five seasons, he led the Raiders to five division titles and four league championships.
Butler was an assistant to Tom Renney with Canada's silver medal-winning team at the 1999 World Junior Championship in Winnipeg and was named head coach of Canada’s entry in the 2001 tournament. Battalion member Raffi Torres scored in overtime as Canada defeated Sweden in the bronze-medal game.
He graduated from Brock University in St. Catharines in 1979 with a bachelors degree in physical education, completed a bachelors degree in education at the University of Toronto in 1980, and earned his masters in education at Brock in 1988.
Pierre Lafontaine, Swimming Canada, CEO, National Swim Team Coach

Pierre Lafontaine, a graduate of Concordia University, started his coaching career in 1976 as the Assistant Coach for the Pointe-Claire Swim
Club.
Pierre has contributed to the advancement and success of swimming throughout his coaching profession. His career spans two continents,
where he held Head Coach and Assistant Coach positions in Montreal (Quebec), Calgary (Alberta), Atlanta (Georgia), Phoenix (Arizona) and
Canberra (Australia). Most recently as Head Coach at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Pierre led four AIS swimmers to podium results at
the 2004 Olympics.
In 2005, Pierre was appointed Swimming Canada as CEO and National Coach. His energetic leadership and motivation led the Canadian Team to five medals at the 2005 World Aquatic Championships in Montreal. In 2006, Pierre was the National Team coach for the 2006 Commonwealth Games team in Melbourne, Australia and the 2006 Pan Pacific Championship team in Victoria, British Columbia. At the Commonwealth Games, Pierre led the team to another successful competition where Mike Brown won Canada’s first gold medal since Mark Tewksbury’s Olympic gold in 1992. A few months later, Brent Hayden won another gold medal for Canada at the 2006 Pan Pacific Championships in Victoria, BC.
Paul Dewland, PureMind Golf, Certified Trainer - Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Paul is the founder of PureMind Golf, providing mental-game coaching and seminars to players at all skill levels. Paul is an INLPTA
Certified Trainer of Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) and has been working as a performance coach for over 15 years. He was trained
by Dr. Wyatt Woodsmall, who served as the mental coach for the US Olympic diving team (featuring Greg Louganis) during the 80’s and
’90’s.
In addition to coaching business executives, Paul’s venture into golf coaching began while playing golf with a friend who had the ‘yips”.
After helping him practice with some simple NLP principles, they saw the problem alleviate in short order. This instantly ignited Paul‘s
passion for learning how to apply his experience and background to help golfers play their best.

If you are not a hockey player the University of Toronto athletic centre will also be open and free to access by all conference attendees. The centre includes a basketball court, work out room, running track and a number of other fitness options. Attendees will also be able to hit balls in the Dome during the evening. The Athletic centre closes at 11PM.
