Rattlesnake Point Defends East Title
While Whistle Bear Claims East Title at TaylorMade Tournament of Champions

(Milton, Ont. May 4, 2009) - RattleSnake Point once again used home course knowledge and a few “member bounces” to claim the 2009 TaylorMade Tournament of Champions. RattleSnake Point, led by Canadian PGA Head Professional Allan Huibers was able to successfully defend their title, winning by one shot over Bay of Quinte.

“We ham and egged it well today,” said Huibers. “Our game plan coming in was to stay in every hole and that’s exactly what we did.

RattleSnake Point becomes only the second golf course in the history of the Tournament of Champions to successfully defend their title. North Ridge Golf Club was the only other club to win back to back in 1999 and 2000. The format for the Tournament of Champions is based on one net and one gross score from the three person team comprised of the previous year’s female and male club champions.

On the west side of the draw Whistle Bear, Glen Abbey and Cedar Brae ended in a three way tie at 136 which led the teams to a shootout commencing at the 150 yard marker on the 18th hole. Whistle Bear led by Canadian PGA Head Professional Chris Werhle were able to squeak out the win.

“This is pretty exciting for our members,” said Wehrle. “Our membership is typically very competitive and it really showed today, we are already looking forward to defending our title and I’m extremely happy for Michelle and Marc.”

This year the charitable beneficiary for 2009 was the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton. The tournament alone rose just over $9000 which was graciously matched by TaylorMade adidas Golf. The charity focus this year hit home for RattleSnake Point as Associate Professional David Belletrutti’s son was diagnosed with terminal cancer and the Belletrutti family spent time at the Ronald McDonald house in Hamilton. Canadian PGA Professional and Ronald McDonald House board member Kevin Thistle accepted the donation on behalf of the Ontario PGA and TaylorMade adidas Golf.
