Brian Groves Wins Brisson Sports & Marketing Ontario PGA Assistants' Spring Championship

(Kettleby, Ont., June 1, 2009) – Playing in the first group of the day Brian Groves (Kaneff Golf Academies) shot a 2-under-68 to win the 2009 Ontario PGA Assistants’ Spring Championship at Carrying Place Golf & Country Club. This is Groves’ second Ontario PGA Assistants’ title after winning the 2006 Assistants’ Summer Championship.

“I played solid today,” said and excited Groves. “I have been working on my putting and that was the difference for me today,” said Groves who has been dedicating more of his time to practicing.

This is the third time in eight years the Assistants’ have played Carrying Place but only the first time since the course underwent an extensive renovation. Beginning in 2003 the course renovated every hole which included a redesign from Robert Heathlip.

“The course is really good and the changes are great,” said Groves. “The course is a lot tougher and you really have to think your way around.”

Other notable scores from Carrying Place included a 1-under-par for Andrew McCormack (The Club at North Halton). McCormack’s round included four birdies and three bogies. Piero Poletto (Country Club), Dave Levesque (Rattlesnake Point) and Brian Hadley (Huron Oaks) all shot even par at the Robert Heathlip redesign.

Notes: The Bamboomer long drive qualifier for the year ending Ontario PGA Long Drive Championship was G.W. King (Georgian Bay Club). G.W. now has a chance to win the Long Drive Championship at Angus Glen on October 27, 2009.
