Eddie Maunder Wins Ontario PGA
Assistants’ Summer Presented by Sligo
- Sets Competitive Course Record

(Caledon, Ont. July 7, 2009)
– Sligo staff player Eddie Maunder shot 4-under-par 68 and looked good doing it today at the Assistants’ Summer Championship. Maunder who carded four birdies and an eagle set a new course record at Caledon which was recently renovated to a par 72 course. The former record of 6-under-par 65 was held by Ontario PGA legends Al Balding and Jerry Anderson.

Maunder, a former Canadian Tour member (2000-2006), attributed his solid round to confidence with the putter.

“I have struggled with the putter the last while,” said Maunder whose last tournament win came in 2007 on the Great Lakes Tour. “I’ve been putting in some good practice and actually switched back to the shorter putter this week and my confidence has improved with it,” added Maunder.

Other notable scores from Caledon included 2-under-par rounds from Billy Walsh Jr. (Beacon Hall) and Gordie Burns (Golden Ridge). Keir Smith (The National), Brent Patriquin (Wooden Sticks) and Michael Farrugia all shot 1-under-par 71. Two time defending champion Reggie Millage struggled today and finished at 2-over-par.

Notes: Each player received a Sligo outerwear piece and it came in handy on this cool day. Temperatures hovered around 15° with strong winds and overcast skies. The Bamboomer Long Drive qualifier this week was G.W. King (Georgian Bay Club). King now qualifies for the season ending Bamboomer Long Drive Championship.
