Tarling & Son Claim Gross Division while McMahon & Bergamin Win Net Division at
Callaway Golf Ontario PGA Pro Junior Championship

(Markham, Ont., July 27, 2009) – Ken Tarling (Ken Tarling Golf Academy) and his son Kevin Tarling were victorious at the inaugural Callaway Golf Ontario PGA Pro Junior Championship in the gross division shooting 5-under-par 67. Meanwhile Chris McMahon (Cedar Brae) and Cody Bergamin shot 9-under-par 63 to claim the net division. Teams that participated in the Ontario PGA Pro Junior Championship at York Downs were comprised of one Canadian PGA Professional and one junior aged 18 years or younger.

The Tarling duo is no stranger to team competition. This is the pair’s third victory as a team with two previous wins coming at the Twenty Valley Parent Child Tournament just outside of Niagara Falls.

“We always have a great time playing together,” said an elated Ken Tarling. “We have great chemistry and we both played pretty solid,” added Kevin, 17 of Sanford, Ontario.

Chris McMahon, Associate Professional at Cedar Brae attributed his team’s fine play to his partner.

“Cody (Bergamin) hit the ball really well today,” said McMahon. “We were pretty relaxed out there and never really thought about score, until the final hole, which we bogied,” laughed the victorious team.

The Ontario PGA Pro Junior Championship was resurrected at the beginning of the 2009 season after almost 10 years in hiatus. Tournament Committee Captain Rob Hickson and his committee decided to bring the tournament back with a focus on the kids. With that, each junior participant received a pair of Callaway Shoes, a glove, a hat and balls compliment of the Ontario PGA and Callaway. In addition the Ontario PGA was able to donate $3,000 to the Golf Association of Ontario’s “Golf in Schools” program.

Other notable scores from York Downs Golf & Country Club included an 8-under-par round for Tom Aird (Maples of Ballantrae) and Wesley Kwok. Danny Maue (Buncrana) and his son Ryan finished one shot back of Aird and Kwok at  7-under-par. In the gross division Michael Todd (Stonetree) and junior partner Sam McEvenue tied Kevin Carter (Wolf Run) and Tyler Stone at 3-under-par 69.
