Ontario PGA Mixed Championship Presented by Ashworth

Midland Golf and Country Club

The Ontario PGA Mixed Championship began in 2002 at Midland Golf & Country Club and has been hosted there ever since. The event has seen only three winning teams since 2002 as Mary Pat Quilty / G.W. King and Rhonda Fleury / Wayne Middaugh have dominated the winners circle. In 2008 Tina Clahane and Scott Bogle upset that trend winning by four shots.

Clahane & Bogle Defend Ontario PGA
Mixed Championship presented by Ashworth

(Midland, Ont., June 29, 2009)
– The team of Tina Clahane (Tee’s Indoor Golf) and Scott Bogle (King Valley) won their second Ontario PGA Mixed Championship earlier today at Midland Golf & Country Club.  Clahane and Bolge shot 8-under-par 62 to edge Mary-Pat Quilty (Settler’s Ghost) and G.W. King (Georgian Bay Club) by one shot in what was the largest field ever for the Mixed Championship.

“It wasn’t only a great field this year but some very strong players as well,” said Clahane, who has been playing in this event for six years with Bogle. “We are really starting to understand the idiosyncrasies of the course and that has helped us tremendously,” added Bogle.

The Mixed Championship which has been played at Midland since its inception in 2002 has only been won by three different teams. Those teams include Quilty and King, Wayne Middaugh (Port Carling) and Rhonda Fleury (Henry Brunton Golf) and finally Clahane and Bogle. Coincidently Middaugh, Fleury, King and Quilty all have ties to the 90 year old Midland Golf & Country Club. Quilty grew up playing Midland while Fleury, King and Middaugh all worked at the club.

Other notable scores from Midland included a 6-under-par 64 for Aileen Robertson (Henry Brunton Golf) and Patrick O’Neill (Henry Brunton Golf) as well as Stephanie Lam (King Valley) and Sheldon Friske (King Valley). Middaugh and Fleury only managed to post 1-under-par 69.
