Ontario PGA Women’s Championship Presented by SUNICE
(Brampton, Ont., August 24, 2009) – Jennifer Jaszek (Heron Point) earned her first professional victory today at Brampton Golf Club. The rookie club professional shot an impressive round of 72 to claim the 2009 Ontario PGA Women’s Championship by three shots over Erin Thorne (South Muskoka).
“I played really well tee to green today,” said Jaszek who entered the Canadian PGA ELITE Apprentice program this year after a brief career as a paralegal. “I was really missing the game and Dan Greenwood gave me a great opportunity to work and play so I made the switch and I’m really enjoying it.”
This is Jaszek’s first win as a professional and her first win since two college victories while studying at the University of Memphis from 2000-2004. After graduation Jaszek played briefly on the CN Women’s Tour before deciding on a 9 to 5 career.
“Switching from a 9 to 5 to the golf profession was a bit of a shock,” said Jaszek. “Golf has been my life and I’m happy to be back playing well and working in the game I love.”
Defending champion Mary Pat Quilty finished in third spot after shooting 78.
The Ontario PGA Women's Championship began in 2001 as its own tournament. Prior to 2001 the tournament was a part of the Ontario PGA Seniors' Championship. The Championship is open to all female members of the Ontario PGA.
