John Rushnell Wins Simmlands Senior Summer Championship

John Rushnell Adds Second Simmlands
Ontario PGA Senior Summer Title to His Trophy Case

(Kleinburg, Ont. July 6, 2009)John Rushnell (Black Diamond) shot 5-under-par 66 en route to victory at the Ontario PGA Senior Summer Championship. This was Rushnell’s second Senior Summer victory with the last coming in 2005 at Glendale Golf and Country Club.

The victory couldn’t have come at a better time for Rushnell, who will tee it up next in the Canadian PGA Senior Championship which goes later this week in Ottawa. Rushnell attributed his fine play to a recent round that was played in a U.S. Senior Open qualifier in Pittsburgh, PA.

“I’ve had a hot putter as of late,” said Rushnell, who shot 70 and grabbed the first alternate spot at his qualifying site.  “I played well today, the course was great and I’m feeling good about my game,” added Rushnell who will head to Ottawa tomorrow.

In the diamond division Rod Goodes (Copetown Woods) finally supplanted Ken Girard (London Hunt) as the predominant winner in the Diamond Division. Goodes was victorious in a 1-hole playoff to claim his first ever Ontario PGA sanctioned tournament.

“I made some good swings today and overall I played pretty well,” said Goodes who made four birdies on his round. “It was a grind right out of the gate but I managed to turn it around.”

Ron Janes won the super senior division after posting a 3-over-par 74. This was Janes' first win in the super senior division.

Other scores at Kleinburg which is set to close at the end of the season included a 2-under-par 69 from Ken Tarling (Ken Tarling Academy) and Bill Wogden (Barrie). Senior Spring Champion Craig Marseilles (Heritage Hills) finished alone in fourth place after posting 1-under-par 70.
